There are a number of hemp seed oil benefits that you can get from using hemp seed oil, either topically or by consuming it.
The moment we hear the name hemp seed, the first thing that comes to our mind is marijuana only because both belong to the same family called Cannabaceae (cannabis plant). And over the last couple of decades beginning 1970’s with many enforcement coming in place to regulate/control certain drugs/plant-derived drugs, hemp too was included in the list of banned/controlled substances without any concrete research. And this simply led to its demise.
Hemp (hemp seed oil) is completely different from marijuana in terms of cultivation, composition, function and application. The confusion between marijuana and hemp has put a break on hemp cultivation, usage and therefore we have not been able to reap hemp’s various health and other benefits.
How Hemp is completely different from Marijuana ?
- The THC level in hemp is found to be less than 0.3% where as in Marijuana it is between 5-30%.
- The tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the chemical responsible for psycho activity. And hemp seeds with low THC content have negligible psychological effect. Also the CBD (cannabidiol) content found in hemp makes the present 0.3% THC useless. So hemp has no psycho activity while marijuana does have.
- The look and appearance of each of the plant is contrasting different with hemp plants having skinnier leaves and taller up to 20ft. While Marijuana are short fat bushes with broad leaves, tight buds.
- Both need different climatic conditions to grow.
Now in last a decade there has been a growing voice to remove the ban on hemp (cannabis sativa) and legalize its cultivation. In India, Uttrakhand is the first state to recently legalize hemp cultivation. And with this now the market is flourished of products made with hemp and hemp seeds.
At SNAANA we source our hemp seed from a town named Kotdwar in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. And the seeds of the hemp usually contain between 15% to 23% oil when subject to cold pressing.
